GARAGE SALE RULES AND INSTRUCTIONS
|
Any person intending to conduct a “garage” sale, “yard” sale, or similar sale of personal property to the general public on residentially zoned property shall obtain a permit from the City of La Quinta, as required by Chapter 11.88 of the La Quinta Municipal Code. All items to be sold at the sale are to be personal property in connection with the use of the premises and have not been acquired, possessed or consigned for the sale.
A permit is required for each sale. Not more than two sales shall be conducted at a particular location within a calendar year (January 1 – December 31). Sales shall only be conducted between Fridays and Sundays, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Merchandise offered for sale shall not be displayed or stored in public rights-of-way. A copy of the permit must be posted and visible from the street during the sale.
Signs advertising the sale are subject to the following provisions:

Signs may be no larger than 6 sq. ft. and posted/placed at a height not greater than 4’.

Signs shall clearly identify the address of the sale.
|
| (3)

A maximum of two signs are permitted per sale; one placed at the site of the sale and one at the nearest intersection to the sale.

Signs shall be on private property with owner’s permission.
|
| (5)
|
Signs are not permitted in rights-of-way or on any utility poles, street signs, or traffic control sign posts.
|
| (6)
|
Sign shall be displayed only on permitted days of sale.
|
| (7)
|
All signs shall be removed by applicant at the conclusion of the sale. Failure to remove the signs will result in a citation being issued.

Any Person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this Chapter is guilty of an infraction punishable under the law.
